Abbot Engelbert Prize
In memory of Abbot Engelbert of Admont (1297-1327) and to further young scholars in universities the Abbot Engelbert Prize is offered annually by Admont Monastery. It is awarded for research in the field of the history of Admont Monastery and the Benedictine Community.
Invitations are sent to faculties or appropriate departments in the German-speaking area where research projects are given out in the specific fields. The Prize is intended to enable a scientific work - usually a doctoral or postdoctoral thesis - to be published.
As far as possible the scripts handed in should be in German and completed in the last year before the date for submission. They should be not more than 500 sides in length. Postdoctoral theses must have already been accepted by a faculty; doctoral theses should have been assessed as “very good” or “good” (summa or magna cum laude).
Each submission will be considered by a jury consisting of:
- the Abbot of Admont
- a representative of the Convent
- the Monastery Archivist
- the Artistic Director of the Art Department.
In considering the scripts, where possible the opinions of the University where they were completed will also be taken into consideration. The Prize consists of a publication subsidy of 2,900 euros.
Appropriate scripts should be submitted by 31st December of each year.
